Vintage Shopping Secrets
Buying used or vintage items is all the rage. Not only do you save money, but you can find one of a kind pieces that no one else has. The main problem is unless you have a personal vintage shopper, finding cute pieces every time is a struggle. Here are a couple of tips that ensure you find things on every shopping trip.
Research Stores
One of my favorite ways to find thrift or resale stores is looking on the Yelp app. Whenever I go to a new city or different part of town, I always check Yelp to see what stores are around. Yelp is great because there are always tons of reviews and pictures so you can see the general vibe of the store before you go.
Bring Friends
Thrifting is always 10x more fun with a friend, especially a friend that has a different style than you because you'll never fight over clothing in the middle of goodwill. If you don't have a friend with you, bring headphones and listen to music. It makes sifting through clothes a lot more enjoyable.
Engage with Workers
While I'm in a thrift store, I try to talk to some of the employees there to gain more information about the store. I like to ask when they get new inventory and if the inventory cycles out quickly or not. Also, lots of stores have student discounts or special sales during the year, which is a money saving tip to be aware of.
Take Your Time
Finding cute pieces takes a lot of time and patience. Be prepared to dig through bins or sort through racks. Also, don't be afraid of not finding anything. Usually I find the cutest pieces in unexpected sections, like the mens section. The mens section is great for flannels and jeans to cut into shorts.
Don't Forget About Online
Some of the most unique pieces I have found have been from online vintage shops. Etsy has many different sellers from all of the country and the prices are usually very reasonable.
Happy Thrifting!
